DIY current sensor idea - zero loss

Here is a simple current detector that the author claims works with 10k ohm current loads.

I have not tested this circuit but it looks good. Easy to build, low parts count, and relatively cheap. On the plus side it might drive a I-O port to TTL levels. I am expecting my transistor order this coming week and will build it and will post my results.

I did notice that this is an open collector circuit which means that pull up resistors may be needed.
