Rocrail vs JMRI

Postby PaulT » 05.02.2018, 20:52

I have just arrived having read a lot about Rocrail over last 48 hours and much more about JMRI over last several years.

I am developing a partly automated model based on C19 UK prototype practice. I have not yet chosen between these two programs, having eliminated commercial schemes on cost grounds. Hardware of fixed equipment will be mostly Merg CBus with Merg or Roco DCC controller just for locos.

Some experts in UK Merg have argued against Rocrail and there are relatively few adopters in the Merg community. However someone else is all in favour.

I am aware of some of the deficiencies of JMRI, but not yet knowing enough to see flaws in Rocrail.

I am sure many Brits have trodden this path in last year or so and I invite them to succintly say why they stayed here and not in the "Other PLace".

If your choice was made much longer ago, your reasons may be outdated as both programs are developing quickly :)

Paul,

you have to convince your self by reading for example the First Steps in the Wiki, and plying with the program.
If you are expecting that we will try to convince you is the wrong assumption; We will help you where we can.

Both JMRI and Rocrail are free of charge; So why not using them both and decide for your self?

PS: I changed the subject to match more the load of this thread.
Best Regards, Rob.

Hi Tom,

yes.
The CANCAB v2 sends not only a function command, after pushing a Fx button, but also an accessory event for a switch or sensor...
Paul seems to know experts in the Merg community, maybe they can help the CBUS department of Merg.
Best Regards, Rob.
