Printing a loco's list of CVs?

Postby alfking » 24.11.2012, 16:34

Hello,

Am researching how best to print-off a list of any decoders default CV settings prior to me making any changes.

I can use my ESU lokprogrammer for my loksound chips but non-loksound chips won't work that way. So some people in other forums have suggested getting a sprog and using Decoder pro, but on the sprog site the author lists Rocrail as another bit of software to use with the sprog.

I use an ESU Ecos 50200 as my Command station and have tried this directly to decoderpro but the latter does not support programming with the Ecos, so before I spend some more money buying a sprog (which apparantely does work in programming mode in lieu of my ecos Ecos as a controller), I thought I'd give Rocrail a quick test.

I have managed to get rocrail talking to my Ecos CS and can drive a couple of locos but don't seem to be able to get the programming tab next to the active locos to do much with a loco's CVs either through the Get or Set buttons. Am I missing something here, or is it like decoderpro that the ecos doesn't work in this mode with rocrail either - and a sprog is required?

Thanks to anyone in advance of any help in this (what I thought would be a simple thing to do) matter,

Alf King

Hi Alf,

ESU did not document programming with the ECoS in its protocol.

According to the German documentation it is planned:
ESU electronic solutions ulm GmbH & Co KG. wrote:P ro t o k o l l - Ve r s i o n 0 . 2
Dritte Auflage, Juni 2011"

7.2. Basisobjekt Programmiergleis (id=5) (in Planung)

Best Regards, Rob.

Thanks Rob,

I don't suppose you know when ESU might be doing this?

Looks like its going to be a sprog investment for now then.

Hi Rob,

Programming
ESU did not document programming in the protocol so as long as this information is missing Rocrail cannot support it.

This statement is in the WIKI, is this still the case?

I could not find this in the current ECoS documentation.

Tom,

as far as I know the protocol to use the programming track is not published for neither Ecos nor Navigator.
You can write a complaint to Esu why it is not published.

Hi Rob,

I just received an e-mail from ESU, they state an I quote:

"Sehr geehrter Kunde,

vielen Dank für Ihre E-Mail.

Leider ist dieses Objekt noch immer in Planung, daher können wir Ihnen hier keine neuen Informationen geben.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

i.A. Christoph Wölfli

ESU electronic solutions ulm GmbH & Co. KG"

So I guess not in the foreseeable future!

Hi Tom,

you just bet on the wrong horse.

The Ecos came already in the years so I do not expect any protocol extension.

Hi Rob,

I am not a betting man :D . When the casino started here, the paper had a story every month stating the average patron lost $68 this month.
As I am a math major I did not like the odds of winning at the casino. After a while this report disappeared, I guess someone figured out that it was not good advertising.

I can understand ESU, they have a product to sell. If they gave away the specs then anyone could adjust the settings free of charge, if they installed Rocrail or any another free software.
Kind regards,
