That is exactly what I'd like the rrocrail server todo. But apparently there is no software command for it according to Rob. It's a pitty. :(

Hi Rob,

The Java viewer on the PC has an option to prepare the ECoS 2 for shut down. (Manually you hold down the "Stop" button until it starts to flash.)
Can you figure what they send from the PC to the ECoS 2? If you need it, I can try to capture it on my Win XP machine, just tell me were to look. :D

Once the preparation is done you can power down the unit.

Hi Tom,

I do not have an Ecos so I cannot test this.
You can use a sniffer to see which messages are send to the Ecos from the Java program.

Hi Rob,

I thought maybe you had a contact at ESU, like you have for other companies.
Enlighten me!
What kind of software do I need to sniff the Java traffic on WinXP? Unfortunately the logfile on the ECoS - PC interface is always empty. I have an inquiry on the ECoS forum (4 weeks now), but still no answer.

Thanks Tom

Hi Tom,

with ESU I do not have any contact.

Try this software:
https://www.wireshark.org

Or try to get the source of the jafa program.
Best Regards, Rob.

Hi Rob,

Here it is! I copied it in a RTF file was not sure you could read the other extension.

IP address of ECoS (version 4.0.2) is 192.168.1.2, of XP is 192.168.1.1

I had the ECoS Java (version 7) viewer already running, then I "turned" off the device. Result: The stop button on the ECoS flashed, that means you can now turn off the power, ie. a controlled shutdown of the Linux software.

In the network specs I found the following "shutdown", maybe you can use that!

Thanks Tom

Hi Tom,

it does not show the contents of the message.
If you select a line the content will be shown on the bottom of the Wireshark window.
Best Regards, Rob.

Hi Rob,

the pcapng-file in the archive is the binary trace. It can be opened and analysed with wireshark

Where did you find that data Tom? Do you have a link to the manual it is in? Without knowing the context, the data is sort of useless.
