macOS Builds from now: Sierra only

macOS Builds from now: Sierra only

Postby rjversluis » 23.10.2016, 16:35

Hi,

I did wait a few weeks to update my MBA to 'Sierra' so I was able to build 'Yosemite' and 'El Capitan'.
Today I will upgrade to 'Sierra' and I can no longer make builds for previous versions.
Builds for Power PC are no longer possible.
Builds for Intel 'Leopard' and 'Lion' are still possible as long the old hardware runs.

If you are still using 'Yosemite' or 'El Capitan'; Just make a free upgrade. Its just impossible for me to support all OSX Classics.
Best Regards, Rob.

Hi Rob,
Why don't you use a Virtual machine with El Capitan to support El Capitan and Yosemite Users some more time?
Not everybody can upgrade to macOS Sierra due to Hardware limitations. Apple closed out some older hardware.
Another reason to NOT upgrade to Sierra now are some incompatibilities with Sierra with existing soft- oder peripheral hardware.
F.i. I have macOS Sierra running in a virtual machine on a El Capitan host to test this out.

Hi Ralph,

I must correct myself because I also have a MB, a white one, which is no longer supported and has 'El Capitan' installed.
So I'm stil be able, as long as the old MB runs, make 'Yosemite/El Capitan' builds.
Best Regards, Rob.

Thank you Rob!

But please think about maybe using virtual machines for that.
I've numbers of them as guests on a Mac Host (Macbook Pro Retina) using any variants of Windows, some Linux-Versions and even Android and Chrome OS are possible.
There some different possibilities for the Mac as a host for VM: Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, Virtual Box for Mac and more.
For me VMWare Fusion works best. I can even use these VM's on a Windows Host with VMWare Workstation for Windows.

I tried installing Leopard in Virtual Box, but that does not work. (It hangs during installing...)
But as long as the old HW runs its also OK for me.

The Sierra build also runs on El Capitan, so no need to build for El Capitan.
