Questions about the CAN-GC4 mergCBUS 8 Channel RFID

Postby ClaudeF » 28.12.2013, 11:32

Hi !

I saw the page below on the wiki :
http://wiki.rocrail.net/doku.php?id=can-gc4-en

RFID technology is very interesting and we want to use it on our layout. Is there somebody that already applied this solution on a HO layout ?

We have questions about RFID reliability. What is the max. distance between the tag and the reader for a reliable reading ?
What is the max. speed for train ? We planned to drive high speed train...
And how RocRail manage this kind of detection ? All is already integrated or there still development to do ?

Thanks !

The CAN-GC4, RFID, is tested, demonstrated and works fine in Rocrail.

Yes but can you help me and point out where the max. distance between tag and reader is specified ? And how fast a train can go ?

Thanks !

All depends on where the RFID Tag is mounted and if you are using the ID12 or ID20.
If you mount a small glass Tag under the motor of the loco the PWM of the motor will generate to much distortion which can be overcome with a stronger reader type ID20.
See my demo N loco:
http://wiki.rocrail.net/doku.php?id=can ... nting_tags

The reader should be fast enough for model railroad trains but you have to experiment to find the optimum reader position and try to minimise the distance between Tag and Reader.

The ID20 is faster with scanning and more powerful.
