Hi Rob,

Maybe can I begin with Rocview ? But I can also help for the wiki of course.
WHat do you think ? It's the first time I help translating on a project, so need to be "initiated"... :)

Cheers

Hi Pit,

the Rocview translation is very easy on Lauchpad.net and I do not think you need a guid for that.
Just create an account at Lauchpad.net and use this link:
https://translations.launchpad.net/rocr ... ts/rocrail

The French translation misses only 222 of the 1000+. ;)
If you managed that I will add an account for the Wiki.
Best Regards, Rob.

Hello Pit!
How are you?

I had the same questions months ago, but for the Brazilian Portuguese... 8)

The answer is: just click on the link Rob gave above, click on Login (upper right corner), create/register an user, return on the Launchpad front page, click on 'French' and have fun.

You just need to translate the word/phrase given, and click on save/continue. It's almost self explanatory.

Your contribuition will be at least easy since there is "only" 222 itens to translate... When I decided to contribute, Brazilians need more than 1100 itens... :)

When you are finished with the 'first wave' of translation, just monitor for Rob updates, i.e., return to Launchpad and see if there are new translations to do.

Since I started to do it, I had some fun returning every day looking for news, translating, and save.

Just remember to translate Rocrail-Dev, AndRoc, and RocJ. From time-to-time, Rob (and/or another developer) merge the translations to the main package.

Cheers,

Walter

Hi Walter !

And thanks for the explanation !

I just had a look and I (already :-) ) have a question: how to see the "context" (where the word will be used) of the word to translate ?
I explain.
I see the word "display" to translate.
But depending of the context, in french, this could be "Afficher" or "Affichage" ?

Cheers

A-há!
Good question!

Well, I try to look on the software where the phrase is used, and try to translate accordingly... Easy when it's obvious, but not so when the word is generic like in your example... In this case I try to be as generic as possible, and look where the word is used.
Rob could explain more about, but I think the programming is made to use the words like 'pointers'... and/or, adding some words to make a phrase. Then it's difficult to create a standard.

Of course you could translate again adapting the context. Just search for a word on Launchpad and re-submit the new translation.

For example, in portuguese was difficult to diferenciate the passenger car and the commuter car... In portuguese they are all passengers... :) But at least I translated to different words...

As I told before, you will have fun searching the context, translating, submiting and re-submiting your words...

At least, you could say "I translated that!"... :D

Cheers,

Walter

Hi!

I just saw that you are working on it... 185 words to go! :o

I personally decided to do not 'ask for review' the items. I just translated it and go. If someone want to change something, it's allowed to do so.
(maybe because I think there isn't too many brazilians running RocRail)

Even you, if you don't like any translation, or want to correct some context, you could simply re-translate and save it.

Of course, french is a more spoke language than brazilian portuguese... so, maybe more people are looking what it's going on...

I understood the 'ask for review' as a matter of been polite and/or ask someone if you are in doubt... like if you want a second opinion...

Good luck!

Cheers,

Walter

Hi walter.

As yousaid, I began translations.

But there are errors on a regular basis with launchpad.
Don't know of it's normal or if you already encouter these errors.

Translations at Launchpad are oft afflicted by errors, but I do not know any alternative.
Until now it has proven its potential and served its purpose.

All Ubuntu users should donate the Ubuntu Project some money because Canonical can't do this for free at long term.

Hi Rob,

as you can see, french translations are on-going.
question about:
"Update RocNet node %d to revision %d? "

is this concerning the RocNetNode which is defined here -> http://wiki.rocrail.net/doku.php?id=roc ... netnode-en

???
