Converting plans between Rocrail and CS2

Postby bertc3p0 » 30.04.2014, 12:15

Hi,

I'm using Rocrail and https://github.com/GBert/railroad/blob/master/can2udp/src/can2lan.c as gateway between Ethernet/CAN <-> Gleisbox 60113. Rocrail is running fine and the MärklinApp also accecpts the gateway as (faked) CS2. So both working at the same time but I have to make the track plain twice: one for Rocrail and one in Märklin CS2 format to display the plan on the app. My question is:
Is there a tool to convert plans between Rocrail and CS2 ?

Regards

never heard of such a tool; The CS2's display is very limited... Why using it?
A good CS should only have a power button and a good communication protocol.
Best Regards, Rob.

thanks for your fast response. My intention is not to use the CS2 - I don't even have one.
A good CS should only have a power button and a good communication protocol.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I own a Gleisbox and an OpenWRT router with a self-made
CAN Interface and running can2lan, which is bridging CAN to LAN on UDP and TCP (for the MärklinApp).
Rocrail is accepting the UDP packets as (faked) CS2 packets and the MärklinApp thinks also
that there is a CS2 in the LAN. The MärklinApp tries to get the configs via HTTP after a "CAN Ping"
was answered by the can2lan code. And here is the point where my request/question kicks in. If there is
a tool converting plans between Rocrail & Märklin I could easily use both GUIs.
With other words: I want to use the MärklinApp without a real CS2.

I'm a little bit lazy. The format of the plan file is documented in the Märklin CAN docs, but if somebody
had already done a CS2 plan file generator I could use the code.

Regards

Gerd

PS: IMHO the MärklinApp isn't that bad. It's Look&Feel is great and there isn't a display limitation on
the iPad like on the real CS2.

why not using andRoc or padRoc?

I'm using padRoc to - it's a great app.

I'm using the MärklinApp for two reasons:
- the Look&Feel is slightly better: Scaling plans with two finger method; plans could be split; two locos under control on the display
- and the most serious reason: because I can :-)

Rob, don't get me wrong. Really, your coding skills are outstanding and your work on the Rocrail project itself is awesome. I know that you are working in your free time. But, as of today, the MärklinApp is a small step in front of the Rocrail Apps IMHO.

Hi Gerd,

the Mä-App does not support StagingBlocks, Fiddleyards, and other Rocrail functionality.
Makes no sense to me using the Mä-App. Maybo only if you are running manually and use basic objects.
But never mind; Have fun.

BTW: The best Rocrail Mobile Client is andRoc and runs on low cost hardware.

In these areas andRoc and padRoc are a leap ahead :D

A good catch: cheap Android hardware an andRoc - a perfect marriage.
