Missing text in buttons on Android 6

Postby seveny » 19.03.2016, 15:20

Hi there,

changed my mobile phone (samsung s3mini was too small for rocrail, but worked), now I have a OnePlus 2.

Androc installs and works, but the buttons are layouted without text - they seem empty.
See screenshots.

Version 547 androc and android 5.1.1 on the phone.

Would be cool if the buttons show text on the OnePlus 2! :-)

Hi,

looks ugly.
Something is really wrong with you new device.
Did you mangle the look&feel?

Someone else in this forum had this issue too. I think he dumped his new phone.
Seems to be an Android bug.

Try Rocweb; Androc is only maintained for the ESU Mobile Control.
Best Regards, Rob.

hmpf, the phone was just unpacked fresh from the box, no mangling (yet ;-)).
will try again if there is a new android version for the phone and stick to my old s3mini for the time being.
will also look into the rocweb thing.
thanks, sven

i am on android 6.0.1 now, but the app still shows the broken buttons. any news in sight about this?

is anyone running androc on 6.0.x sucessfully?

ps: rocweb works via chrome on the phone, but reaction-time (latency?) is sometimes slow.

Hi,

I cannot check it because the Android 6 Emulator does not boot correctly.
Google has learned from Apple iOS: Try to break as many Apps as possible with a new release.
This strategy was the reason to create Rocweb; Away from native mobile Apps, let the Browser do that job.

Hi Rob,

thanks for the insights. Will use the webclient (looks good, watching the latency thing).

Does it mean, you won't work much more on the androc-app then?

it is only maintained because of the ESU Android Throttle.
This hardware is based on Android 4.
But IMHO it should work on 5 and 6 too. I cannot get the Android SDK 6 Emulator to function, otherwise I would take a look at this issue.

I had my part of frustration with Apple's iOS which costed me a lot of time. (iRoc, padRoc)
Now Google is screwing up its Mobile Android OS too.

This is why I swapped to HTML 5, Rocweb, for Mobile clients to get rid of this frustration, waist of time, certificates and App Store jails.

I installed cyanogenmod 6.0.1 on my Google Nexus 7 (2012). No problem with Androc here.

Thanks Albert.

@Sven: Its definitive a problem of your device settings. It seems your device is scaling somehow because the tripple dots, at the top right corner, are much too big on your display. Just check this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=67&t=11233
Same issue.

Try this:

Count me in!
For me, Rocweb cannot replace Androc. So I agree with Robert. But just a simple loc controller would be great.
