[solved] Some padRoc issues

Postby pit » 28.05.2014, 18:52

Dear all,

1) Again, thanks for the good job !

2) problem with the function buttons: I didn't see text or icons even if it's defined on the rocrail server. Is it a future option ?

3) commercial strategy.
I have to pay for PadRoc
But... I already support Rocrail for two years.
And ... if I want IRoc for my Iphone, I have to pay again.
At the end, this become a little bit expensive... Why not to incoporate the PAdRoc or Iroc option in the support key (so, a part of the money will not to go to Apple....) ?
At my club, if we want to use rocrail, if every member has to pay for his mobile app, then Rocrail become very expensive (competitors not open-source, offers the mobile option)

Pit,

Apple demands also money if Apps are for free in the App Store.
I do not want to pay this fee only myself. Also I need a Mac to develop iOS Apps. $$$$$$$$$$$$
So if you do not like andRoc, an Android App, you have to pay for iOS Apps to anticipate in the high costs.

But you can buy your self a Mac, download the sources of padRoc, compile it with xCode, and play it on your iPad for free. Good luck.

At the end, this become a little bit expensive...

?????????????
Best Regards, Rob.

Rjversluis,

1) what about the option for icons or text for the control of the loco ?
is it an option possible in the future ? I not sure, but I think I see that for the android app ?

2) you can propose a support key special mobile app for a "normal price" including the price of the free app on the appstore and a part of your MAc. It will be more flexible.
Again, if I pay for PadRoc (and not price is not a liitle one) maybe I can receive IRoc in the package.
but, as you said that source of these app are available, and as I have a Mac for a long time (with xcode), i can try to compile them. In this case, no more problem

3) may i remind you that I pay fot your app (if I understand well) AND for two years of support key.
So maybe you can begin your message wit "first, thnaks to support us Mr Pit"................

Every member of your club that owns an iPhone/iPad and can't afford the Rocrail mobile app should think about terminating his/her mobile phone contract (or stop model railroading  ) immediately. This might save a lot of money...

I am developing for more then 12 years this software dude, in spare time.
You can use it without any support key.
You should thank me.
Do you think the Wiki Hosting and nightly builds are also free of charge for me?
The support key is only to anticipate in the costs of keeping Rocrail alive.

There are some users I say thank you to, but not only for the few Dollars they spend, but for the forum support to help other users and translations in the wiki and contributing to the software.

i can try to compile them. In this case, no more problem

Good luck. But try to program it your self.
Best Regards, Rob.

"1) Again, thanks for the good job !"

is it not possible to make comment or suggestion ?
if not, please, say it.

may I remind you my question about icon and text on the controler of the loco ?

PS: i made programs for 20 years...

This is not supported nor planned.

There is another German thread for padRoc enhancements:

GREAT !
When this update will be available on the app store ?

about IRoc: I try to compile it.
But one error:
symbol dyld_stub_binding_helper not found, normally in crt1.o/dylib1.o/bundle1.o for architecture i386
clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation)

any idea ?

rjversluis,

Forget my question about the error on xcode.
I found the solution: deployment target was still on 3.0. I change it for 3.1 and it runs !

now maybe can I look at the code. I never programed an app for Iphone (just began a little game on obj-c some years ago) but this could be interesting.

Cheers

Objective-C is very weird and I do not like it very much, but thats the only language available.
If you are planning to save money to install it on your club member devices I will set the source code to private at GitHub so further development will be unavailable.
But as far as I know you need a developer license from Apple: $99 each year.
I will also report this issue to Apple if you will install my software illegal on devices.
Best Regards, Rob.

no chance to give this to the member of my club. They finaly choose ITrain. ! One of the reason was that, once the licence paid, the app for mobile was totaly free (other reason is that Itrain "seems" to be worked better with Dinamo). That's why I made this suggestion, but i will not relaunch the discussion....

You said "if you will install my software illegal on devices"
not sure to understand ?
is the source code in open source mode so everybody can participate ?
Or is the code only availabe for review ?

may I, again, remind you that I paid AND for two years of support of RocRail AND for your app.
So, it should be firendly to not consider me as a "pirate"....

Hi Pierre,

I just try to protect my time consuming mobile app investments which should help keeping Rocrail financially alive; Just made them private at GitHub which costs me another $80 a year.

You cannot compare the commercial 'ikTrein' with an open source project like JMRI or Rocrail.
Many commercial developers are lurking open source projects to save development time and frustration for free.
Its your own decision to opt for a commercial program but don't report it in this forum.

Good luck.
Best Regards, Rob.

rjversluis,

did you read my posts ?
as already explained (again and again) I opt for .... RocRail !
more: I support it ! Which is maybe not the case of everybody on this forum.
My club choose Itrain (for the reason already explained), for myself I choose rocrail.
And I don't compare the two product. For myself, Rocrail is perfect !

about source code, I don't understand your reaction
some post ago, you thanks people trying to contribute to your soft
I explain that I'm interrested to look and maybe contribute
and ... you close the access to the code ???

anyway, it's your decision.
now, as "simple customer" I will wait for the new version (with text on button) of padroc

The reason is obvious:
pit wrote:Again, if I pay for PadRoc (and not price is not a liitle one) maybe I can receive IRoc in the package.
but, as you said that source of these app are available, and as I have a Mac for a long time (with xcode), i can try to compile them. In this case, no more problem

Also I want to protect it for commercial lurkers.

About the price: If you cannot afford € 10,- for an App on an iPad or iPhone I do not understand how you could afford them.

About the support key:
http://wiki.rocrail.net/doku.php?id=don ... al_aspects
Its a free donation which is not needed to use 100% of Rocrail. andRoc and RocJ are only Goodies for financial supporters of the Rocrail project.

As I also have explained in this thread: iOS Apps can't be free of charge because they can not be published at no costs in iTunes AppStore.
Best Regards, Rob.
