Re: ESP8266 based Mobile Rocnet Node

Henning, Many thanks for introducing me to those parts of the German Forum!. I do search them, but had missed those threads!!. Rob must get tired answering the same questions in different languages!! I would like to learn more about the Node-Red stuff- Did you write up any stuff in a Rocrail user Wi...

Re: ESP8266 based Mobile Rocnet Node

Rob, Not to extend the discussion, - because I agree the length is "about right".. But for complete understanding.. ? :?: Why 110 and not 120 or 126 or 127? Was it just a random selection? That's fine if it was, I am just curious.. D (edit)Many thanks to Henning for pointing me to the German Forum!!...

Re: ESP8266 based Mobile Rocnet Node

Peter, thanks..I could not find that reference when I looked for it. max of characters including control characters is 110 But i dont know who is limited, Rocrail oder the display controller. I think (but am not sure) it is Rocnet/Rocrail that limits to 110 (but why not "full" 7 bits len = 127 ?) If...

Re: ESP8266 based Mobile Rocnet Node

Rob, quick questions. :?: Q1 A user is using my WiRocs Oled display stuff, but the data length of the message in the RocNet protocol is limiting how many characters can be sent, so we lost some platform numbers... I think I saw some time ago in a forum that you limited the message content in RocDisp...

Re: ESP8266 based Mobile Rocnet Node

Casper, i think i answered this in a pm, but i have also completely updated the code and called it WiRocS.. Another user found that there is an issue if the SPIFFs is not working or is missing files. The same problem I think you had.. I have today completed a version on the experimental branch of Wi...

Re: RocNet Protocol

Rob new question, but probably one you have answered before: I am trying to make some of my internal WiRocS code consistent with "Rocrail/Rocnet" terminology. I currently have some very poor code written a long time ago that looks at various bit states, something like this example: bool IsInput(uint...

Re: ESP8266 MQTT Client

You can use avrdude to upload a HEX file: avrdude -c stk500v1 -P [com port] -p atmega328p -U flash:w:[Filename.hex]:i I think you will find that that is OK for AVR devices, e.g. standard Arduino, but ESP8266 and ESP32 are not atmega devices.. so Arduino for ESP uses an "Esptool" in place of the avr...

Re: ESP8266 MQTT Client

OH.. I think light dawns.. but very dimly... As you had put in https://forum.rocrail.net/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=12504&start=45#p191562 (which seems a long time ago) What I had not appreciated was the subtle difference between "missing data" being set by default to true or "available data" but being se...

Re: ESP8266 MQTT Client

This is a bit of a controversy, as Rob thinks I should "not show" if ((_show is false) OR (_active is false)), but I think that's the same logically.. :?: ..Or I have misunderstood. you should program if the attributes are not part of the XML you received from the broker. Only do not list up...

Re: ESP8266 MQTT Client

How many locs can be shown? It now displays 12 but I have about 26 in rocrail. The code should accept (and show) up to 125 locos, but only if they are "active" and "shown" in Rocrail when the throttle is started.. The code has a check for if ((_Show=="true")&&(_Active=="true")) Which looks for "sho...

you can also use the Arduino IDE to flash a HEX file.

Re: ESP8266 MQTT Client

Casper, /(all) When you programmed your throttle, did you modify PubSubClient.h (in your Arduino Libraries: somewhere like C:\Arduino\libraries\PubSubClient\src ). :!: It is ESSENTIAL that you change line 26 (or thereabouts) to #define MQTT_MAX_PACKET_SIZE 10000 :!: This is because rocrail sends ver...

Re: ESP8266 MQTT Client

So this thread is about the Client , not the Node. Yes, what we need perhaps is a topic (or topics), perhaps in the rocnetnode heading, for esp based hardware? I think there are perhaps three of us at least with different esp based 'rocnet' node softwares. Ps your 'edited' version seems to be the l...
