Can these be used as RFID modules?

Postby fieryturbo » 17.12.2015, 05:50

So I found these on ebay, they are extremely cheap, and already have a USB chip. 125MHz, EM4100:

At 5 USD, I could put lots of these on my layout. Could they be used under track?

Hi fieryturbo,

the low frequency (125 kHz) of this module need big antennas which only be possible in casings like smart cards, bank cards or similar form.
IMHO are so RFID modules not usable for Model railroading.

MERG rfid uses 125mhz as well, but EM4102 not EM4100. What is the difference?
