[solved] control the ligths in buildings with rocrail

Post by joernr » 21.05.2015, 15:10

Hi,
I want to control the ligths in my buildings via rocrail. What is the best way to do this? What kind of hardware should I use?

Best regards

Hi Joern,

there is a very cheap solution based on a publication of Elektor:

Hi,
has anybody experience with LM2? I have a second RS232 port for this device. How can I send an adress to this module? Has anybody an configuration example to control the ligths via rocrail?

There are a few ways to do what you want.

Rob described one. You could also use a Pi-03. With a Pi03 and a RGB LED you can control both color and intensity.

I have done it but have no video or how-to.

Basically, what you do is hook up a RGB LED to 3 servo outputs. By varying the "position" of each output, you have a maximum of 16 million colors possible. (4096*4096*4096)

Since you are using 3 outputs per LED and there are 16 outputs per board, that means that you can control a maximum of 5 RGB LEDs per controller. If you want to control a plurality of LEDs in parallel, then an additional driver transistor is needed to raise the current capabilities of the controller's output.

Here is one video that features the controller and a bunch of RGB leds.

Here is an example of the same controller used to light up a stairway.

Hi rocrail team,
now I have installed two LM2 Controller. It work's very good and I'm able to switch on/off my lights with rocrail.
Now I'm looking for a easy way to control my lights with a time-delay switch integrated in rocrail. As a workaround I have defined some actions, variables, and counters. But this is very complex. Has anyone a solution or could this be a feature request?

Best regards

Hi Rob, hi Jan,

in Rocrail I found only random LED control. The other tool led-verlichting is nice, but it's not integrated in rocrail.
Is it possible to integrate it in rocrail? I have an linux environment and I don't like to use a separate windows server for light control.

Best regards

Hi Jörn,

you can control it with XmlScript and or Actions.

What controlling functionality do you have in mind?
