[Solved] Problem at startup: TamsMC

Post by agre30 » 16.03.2014, 14:04

Since I use a TamsMC I start Rocview and the workspace is opened. It happens that when I just started my computer and immediately start Rocrail only the first status bulb is on. The Tams does not respond to power on / power off and al my sensors in Rocgui are off.
When I start my computer and wait a few minutes there is no problem. Also when I end Rocrail and start it again the problem is solved.
(I'm not sure whether the problem is caused by the Tams or the HSI88 so I post in the Basic Topics)

Hello Albert!

Do you use USB connection to Tams MC? If yes, it is important that you first start Tams MC and second RR. Otherwise the virtual serial port of USB is not initialized and RR cannot establish a connection to Tams MC.

In more recent libraries a connection retry is automatically started; Mostly needed if its an USB port.

When I start there is no power on the system at all
Then I put the power on and the Tams starts.
Then I start the computer. When the computer is up and running, after a few seconds the boosters are powered up (I haven't started Rocrail yet).
Then I start Rocrail and the workspace is loaded.

I do have a recent version of Rocrail. I upgrade almost once a week, mostly in the weekend.
The Tams is connected to an USB port
The HSI88 is the serial version and connected to a serial port.

[Edit] In the issue.txt I read:
Could not init HSI88 port!
Could not init p50x port!

Hello Albert!

What is the/your "system"?
Then I start the computer. When the computer is up and running, after a few seconds the boosters are powered up (I haven't started Rocrail yet).
From my point of view this is not ok. My boosters are "on" when I press "Go" on the MC or the power button on RR.

Hello Claus,
I have a TamsMC with 2 Tams B-2 boosters. Each booster has his own power supply. I divided my layout in 2 parts. One booster for each part.
The Tams and the boosters are connected parallel with three wires on pin 1, 2 and 5.
The connection for the push button on de boosters is bridged by a piece of wire. When I press the Go button both boosters are powered on.

As said before, if I don't push the Go button the boosters are also powered up after the computer is up and running.

How is your MC configured? Could you please check the MC manual page 6.15?

Hi Albert,
The connection for the push button on de boosters is bridged by a piece of wire.
did this not force the booster to switch on anyway after applying power?

Best regards

Andre

Hello Claus and Andre,
Thanks for your help.

The B-2 booster is set to DCC, according to the manual page 43
The 'Kurzschlus-Polarität' of the Tams is set to 'Negativ' according to the manual page 6.15
When I put power on the Tams the B-2 boosters are off untill I press the Go button on the Tams as long as the computer is off.

I think the solution is in the message in the issue.txt file:
Could not init HSI88 port!
Could not init p50x port!

But I don't know what caused this to happen.

Hi,
maybe Its a problem of the ubuntu modemanager. At startup of the PC the modemmanager searches and probes for modems at serial ports and usb ports. This probing maybe irritate the Tams MC.
Maybe an udev rule to prevent the modemmanger from probing your Tams Usb-Port may help. Here is an example for opendcc Z1

Thanks Rob,
Will Volkers solution also work for me? Another workaround is just wait a few minutes and then start Rocrail.
