GC1e connection problems

Postby gary99 » 19.12.2016, 00:29

Hi everyone,

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
I have built the GC1e and powered up. All ok.
Set a win 7 PC to IP 192.168.0.1
Connected a patch cable to the GC1e. The link lights and ether activity lights flash.
From command prompt I can ping the GC1e on 192.168.0.200

I've followed the setup instructs for GC1e many times but cannot get the IP address to change
I cannot get Rocrail to see the GC1e so as to change the IP address.
How do you know when Rocrail can see the GC1e?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm sure this has been covered many times by newbies.

I'm pulling my hair out

Many thanks,

gary

Thanks Rob,
I sorted out the issue by reading the rocrail manual.

The GC1e instruction assume that you have previously set up Rocrail with a controller which isn't listed.

Any way here's how I did it. Maybe it can help others.

1. Power up new Gc1e without network cables and check all voltages.
2. Change the IP4 TCPIP network address on your computer to 192.168.0.1, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.0.100.
Ensure that you have checked the manual setup IP address in the Pc adapter properties.
3. Plug in your network cable between your PC and GC1e. (an ethernet swapover cable will be needed for PC to GC1e else a normal
patch cable for PC to Hub to GC1e)
4. The network lights on the GC1e should be flashing else you have a bad cable or card.
5. In windows go to start then type CMD in the text box at the bottom of the start menu. Hit return.
6. At the windwows prompt type ping 192.168.0.200.
7. If all is well you will get three replys from the GC1e (reply from 192.168.0.200:bytes32 time=5mS TTL=100) this means you are connected.
8. Now run Rocview.
9. Select File> Open workspace and select folder.
10. Select File>Rocrail Properties >Controller.
11. Delete the virtual Controller then add a cbus controller from the Add menu.
12. Select the cbus controller and select the properties.
13. Change the properties to TCP/Ip and then hit OK.
14. Now go back to the Rocrail user screen and watch the server window.
15. Power cycle the Gc1e and Rocrail will connect with:
18:52:09 connected to 192.168.0.200:5550
18:52:09 trying to connect to 192.168.0.200:5550...
16. from here on in you should be able to change the Gc1e IP address as per the instructions on the GC1e setup.

Now for the GC2 to get working.

I'll be back.. :D

Cheers

Hi Gary,

Something like this? Is it the right place/page?

Hi Tom,

I deleted the 'User Narrative' because its for most users not helpful because the PC becomes an IP address by DHCP and not a static one.

Hi Rob,

'User Narrative' because its for most users not helpful

OK, wouldn't it be better to adjust that part of the narrative?
