S88 sensor activation causes CS2 reboot/reset

That is correct that the blocks turn blue upon Enter. However, they turn blue from a reserved pink instead of a reserved yellow. They also turn pink again from blue upon In. So generally I have pink and blue block indications with an occasional yellow for these latest releases.

I would say the fact that the ID of the sensor that triggers the crash not showing up in the trace may be the clue that this event is being interpreted as something else.

Which block state do you mean with pink?

Again: How can I reproduce it? -> Open another thread for this issue.

The Sensor 54 report 2 time at startup its zero state.

The sensor has address 55...

After 55 became 1 Rocrail sends to the MCS2 some switch command to set route autogen-[11-]-[13+].
Nothing wrong with that...

What happens if this sensor/reed contact is activated if Rocrail is not running? Also a CS2 reboot?

Hi Peter,

you can read here more horror stories about the new CS2 firmware. (Without Rocrail it seems to reset itself after some time...)
Nach ca. 10 - 15 Minuten stürzte die CS2 ab, ohne ersichtlichen Grund!

It has nothing todo with Rocrail, and its just a coincident that a newer revision of Rocrail can trigger the CS2 to reset.

For the block color issue I opened a new thread:

Hi Rob,

I totally agree with you that the latest update of the CS2 to version 4.2.1 has brought with it various bugs, strange inconsistent behaviour, and random crashes even when nothing is operating. However, in this case the crashes are not random. They are predictable and will always occur when sensor 11NBEnter-SBIn or 12NBEnter-SBIn are triggered when a loco enters the block from the + side after 9-10 minutes of operation. This timeframe is consistent with the Stummi article you provided the link for. However, it does not explain why only these 2 sensors, and nothing else causes this CS2 crash and reboot. As explained previously the reboot does not trigger a Rocrail power off event and it stays in automatic control. Once the reboot is completed I can turn off Rocrail automatic control, reset all of the locomotive positions, and resume automatic control for all of the locos except for the one in block 11 or 12 that caused the reboot. The instant I try to start that loco in automatic in that block the CS2 crashes immediately. It does not crash if I try to start the loco from the CS2 or if I start it manually from Rocrail, only if I try to start in automatic.

To get out of this I have to shut everything down and restart everything in sequence.

I can only assume that the newer releases of Rocrail are sending some information to the CS2 that it interprets as an overload when either of these sensors is triggered after the 9-10 minute period.

I'm at a loss as to what else I can try, except remain with an old stable version of Rocrail until a new CS2 update is issued.

Any other ideas as to what I can try?

Regards
Peter

Hi Peter,

just restore the previous Firmware:
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=14104#p148706

Rocrail has been optimised to process more Command Station events in the same time frame. Maybe the new CS2 Firmware has a timing problem.
I will not fine tune Rocrail for the new CS2 Firmware.

You can experiment with this option:

Re: S88 sensor activation causes CS2 reboot

Hi Rob,

I certainly would restore the old firmware if I could. According to Marklin it is impossible, plus I cannot find a source for the 4.1 firmware.

I have now completed the test of running every available version of Rocrail releases and can confirm that version 12478 is the last stable version that I can run. I have been running 4 trains in automatic for over an hour with no issues. I tried the next available version 12488 and the CS2 crashed within 3 minutes through activation of S88 sensor 55 (same as per all the previous incidents). I reverted back to 12478 and ran for another hour just fine.

So something changed in Rocrail between versions 12478 (July 29/17) and version 12488 (July 30/17) that my CS2 does not like.

Regards
Peter

As you can read in the other thread: It is possible to downgrade the CS2 Firmware.

in 12.484 and 12.485, the throughput of the system has been increased. Try the Command Pause Option in the CS2 Rocrail setup, which I already suggested in my previous posting.

Re: S88 sensor activation causes CS2 reboot

Thank you Rob.

If I can find a source for CS2 release 4.1 I will try, but so far no one has been able to help me.

I tried the Command Pause option but it had no effect. Perhaps I did not make it long enough. Suggestions for a setting?

If the throughput increase is the problem, would that not be triggered by any event? Why is it always sensor 54 or 55? If I disable those sensors and use an enter2in for the remaining sensors in those blocks, the problem transfers to them. If I put those 2 blocks out of service the problem transfers to sensor 56. It is always a sensor in S88 module 4, nothing else. What triggers the "report all 1024 sensors" in 12486?

Hi Peter,

the log is:
Code: Select all
12486 2017-07-29 17:05:48 +0200 virtual: report all 1024 sensors on SOD

VIRTUAL. Nothing todo with CS2. (The virtual command station reports 1024 sensors on start of day for testing throughput.)

If you need a slow Rocrail for your CS2? Stick with 12.483 or older.

Perhaps I did not make it long enough. Suggestions for a setting?

Just experiment with it. I cannot figure it out, and I do not recommend this approach.

I'm always willing to help but in this case I can't because its the firmware of the Märklin CS2 which causes the reset. (See the Stummi threads.)
Best Regards, Rob.

Hi Peter,

you can download the update.img from Maerklins Page under downloads. (https://www.maerklin.de/fileadmin/media ... update.img). File is about 130MB and not the 135MB-File. It is the update file in the long list, not the link in first position. You have also to download the .md5 file below the cs2update.img.
