source access is for building locally and for testing, not for changing/extending Rocrail functionality.
If something is missing: Create a new thread and I will look at it.

Hi Rob,

yes, I understand and I do not want to change your sources. But there shouldn't be a problem if I do local builds and testing for my new hardware modules, right?
As I wrote in my previous post, I could provide ideas to you, afterwards. However, in case you don't want to have the ideas for features that's also fine for me. Then I would keep them private and only use them on my personal system.

I did gave you access for compile locally only. If you start modifying the source access will be disabled.
Best Regards, Rob.

Hi Paul,

why do you need it?
There are nightly and regular builds for many operating systems.

I also woul like to have source access:

- i like to build software myself (using a pre-compiled binary doesn't feel like using opensource, does it?)
- I'm a developer and am always interested to find bugs

I also read, you won't accept changes on gitlab? How about bugfixes, how would one report them?

Here's my GitLab username/id: StephanRichter/2008190

best wishes,
Stephan

where did you read that Rocrail is open source?

If you are the opinion that you found a Bug you can report it in the Rocrail Forum.

I did not read it. It was open source, when i started to use it two years ago or so. As far as i understand, it was closed to avoid "patches" for the startup dialog.

As I said, i downloaded the sources two years ago. I very much would like to upgrade to the current version and also am willing to pay for it. But I'm not willing to install a pre-compiled software on my systems. I appreciate the work going on, and that it must be protected. But also, I want to be able to have a look under the hood for any software that is running on my devices.

Thus, i would be very grateful if i could get source access. If this is a problem, i will refrain from using rocrail any longer and won't recomend it any further.

best wishes,
Stephan

If this depends on having source access... Write your own software, then you will have 100% control.

Hehe, actually I'm thinking about implementing my own software for this purpose.

But then I think:
- why reinvent the wheel, when there's already such a fine software?
- planning and implementing woult cost huge amounts of time (I know you know :)
- even if I would start to, in the mean time I would like to use my model rail.

Thanks for the access! I hope i find the time to compile next week. After that, I will donate some money.

best wishes and have a nice weekend!

I am using OpenSuSE Tumbleweed. Due to the frequent changes of the tumbleweed installation I need to compile rocrail from the Sources; the packages usually do not run or even install due to some libraries having changed in the meantime.

Please grant me access. My GitLab login is RB47Solingen-Wuppertal. I already had access to the old source platform on rocrail.dyndns.org; my ID on that platform was n5650solingen.

Best regards

Rocrail is up and running on my Tumbleweed installation.

Many thanks for granting access to the sourcecode.

Strange thing: i recieved an email, saying i was granted access at gitlab. But when I click the link, Gitlab tells me, i don't have access.
