[Feature added] No "Set-in-Block" function in Rocweb?

Postby rvooyen » 29.07.2017, 20:09

Hi,

There does not seem to be a "Set in Block" function in Rocweb(xs)?
This is an issue for operating with mobile throttles. In andRoc there is a Set in Block function.

Here is the reason:

I have a loc that is not in the necessary starting block for the schedule to be run (it is in the shed or another block.
So I manually operate the loc to bring it to the block (Yard departure track) where it's wagons (train) are waiting te be picked up.
In andRoc I can now call the required block from the list and use the Set In Block button to put the loc in the required block.
I can then call the required schedule starting in that block and start the train on it's way.

I try to do the same with Rocweb but get stuck at the point of setting the loc in the block since there does not seem to be such a function? I read the wiki. The only function is an assign train but this does not set the starting block.

So: Is there a Set-In-Block function in Rocweb that I have missed, or is it simply missing?

In other words how does one set a loc in a starting block in Rocweb?
If it is missing then I would request it be added so that it works like the andRoc function.

Regards,

Robert

Hi Robert,

if I remember correctly - trains are on summer vacation ;) - the function is here: http://wiki.rocrail.net/doku.php?id=roc ... -en#block1. Choose the block from the drop-down list and you are done.

Thanks Besra but this does not work. I have read the wiki and know how Rocweb works.

I want to:

1. Place a loc in a block.
2. Select a schedule starting from that block.
3. Start the loc/train.

I do not see how this can be done in rocweb. There is no way (that I can see) to Set=place the loc in the required block.

In andRoc it is very simple:
1. Select the required block from the list.
2. Set the loc in the block (Button)
3. Select a schedule from the list.
4. Start the loc.

Robert

Robert,

1. Click on a block.
2. Click on the loco image in the block popup.
3. Select a loco from the list.
4. Click again on the same block.
5. Select a schedule, start loco.
Best Regards, Rob.

Hi Robert,

that is not possible with XS...
A select block popup is missing.

Hi Robert,

I added a select block popup in case of a long click on the loco image and the loco is not in a block.

I loaded 12491 and the function works (sort of) - thanks!

The reason I say sort of is that on the (older) phones I have as throttles the response in Rocweb(xs) is slow and unresponsive - on my devices.
Even on a newer phone with a simple browser the block is not always selected first time - repeat 2-3 times then ok.
Also the select schedule and start train buttons are slow and unrepsonsive (repeat 2-3 times wait wait). I guess this is just the result of all the overhead in the browsers (Chrome Firefox etc) these days which is why I am looking for a simpler browser.

I am comparing Rocwebxs with andRoc all the time. andRoc is bang bang bang bang - everything reacts fast and first time - great!!

In my opinion Rocweb(xs) is only useable as throttle for experienced and patient users - I would not give a Rocweb throttle to a guest, they would become very frustrated. Maybe I should not compare Rocweb to andRoc, I am just saying that any decision to discontinue andRoc should be made after careful surveying of Rocrail users and only if an alternative can be found.

Were andRoc discontinued (with no alternative), then for me it would be a very serious issue.

Rocweb needs powerful devices and simpler browsers to become more responsive. I will keep looking and hope to find something.

Thanks again,

Robert

Hi Robert,

did you check the CPU load of the Rocrail Server under XP?
My tests with different Mobile hardware are OK without any delays.

Androc can be maintained, but I really want to leave Play Store and make it only available from the Rocrail download site.

A clear example:

Changing a loc in Rocweb takes 30+ secs before the new loc accepts commands. (Chrome, Firefox)
Once the new loc accepts commands it responds with little delay and works well. (Pipeline open??)
Change to a new loc and again wait 30+ secs.

I do not know why this is. Opening pipelines? Opening and closing streams?
Same with the popups - wait 30+ secs before respose is shown (eg on Rocview), not shown, repeat, wait etc.

In andRoc everything has fast response.
All phones android 4.2.2.

this is off topic; You already have threads with your Rocweb negative experiences.
You also did not answer my question.

I think I have found the issue. Chrome browser!! Bah.

I have tested several browsers on several phones, previously I was using Chrome as standard browser. No More!
Maybe Firefox has improved with latest updates since I have found that using Firefox there is no delay anymore!

I tried others (APUS browser beware - this trashed my oldest and favorite Alcatel device - hangup!).

Anyway conclusion for now is to use Firefox browser on the Android phones. I have a couple left now with Firefox and I have tested them many times with Rocwebxs and it is useable.  Delays minimal and acceptable.

So mobile throttles:
andRoc (1st choice) but
RocwebXS with Firefox (latest) is acceptable/useable also! Dump your Chrome browser it is terrible with Rocweb.

Thanks for the updates Rob - I will be quiet for a while I hope. :) :)
