dcc232-debian 9

Post by pin88303 » 14.05.2019, 14:34

Hello all of you !

I would like to share a strange behaviour when i try to use dcc232 protocol with my two different computers running under debian stretch.
I use this computers for music recordings and i wonder if i have troubles because i'm running a real time linux kernel or not !
You will find here a summerize of the checks i did with the same configurations for every case:

locs with esu decoders v4 nmra-dcc
Serial port
ord3 last version
pci card for serial connections

Running rocrail server under debian 9:

port: /dev/ttyS0 with dialout permissions.
Ord3 reacts normally with leds and i have normal power on trakcs.
My locs doesn't react at all(when i use old ddx protocol, i can make react them if the configuration is locked on motorola rev 3)

port /dev/ttyUSB0 witn ftdi usb adaptater ---> same results

Running rocrail server under debian 9 with wine emulator::

port: com1
Everything is working perfectly !

port: com5 witn ftdi usb adaptater ---> working perfectly

Running rocrail server windows 10 (i have a dual boot)::

port: com1
Everything is working perfectly !

port: com5 witn ftdi usb adaptater ---> working perfectly

I assume that i did this verifications on my second computer, a laptop but it runs also with a real time kernel, and i have exactly the same conclusions.

Does anybody of you had already such kind of troubles ?

Thanks a lot

Marc

Hi Marc,

all depends on the implementation of the device drivers.
They will change from time to time...
Using RS232 to generate a DCC signal is no longer a good idea.
Better use a dedicated command station.

DDX and DCC232 are no longer maintained, and will be removed in future revisions of Rocrail.

Hi Rob,

Thx for this answer.

It means that to not put in the trash all the hardware i have, i should turn to the gca System ?

Hi Marc,

there are many options available from Arduino DCC++ to Zimo MX10. (The MX10 is the most expensive one I know of.)

Thanks Rob, that's clear.

I still have an unused raspberry in my drawer, i will take a try in this way to use my ord3 :)

Sincerely

Marc
